Tools and Hardware Reviews of Rubbermaid 3N83 Collapsible Cargo Crate

Customer Review: Liked it until handle broke
Summary: 2 Stars

Its pretty expensive for a flimsy plastic crate, but it seemed to work quite well until this week the handle pulled out. Used only 1/week for 4 months.

Customer Review: Flimsy cart at high price
Summary: 2 Stars

Had my cart for less than one month and the pull handle already broke. Very disappointed. It is cheaply made for the price and is not very sturdy.

Customer Review: Weak, small & generally useless
Summary: 1 Stars

I bought this to tote groceries the short distance from the car into the kitchen (maybe 40 - 50 feet, no stairs). The packaging didn't indicate a weight limit but did say cart was sturdy or words to that effect. Upon first use I found it to be flimsy & almost too small to be of use. Small plastic wheels didn't roll over front door's threshold & had I to pick it up. After another two or three uses, the handle came out of the base as I unfolded it to use. I never could get it back in right and just decided to return it. The picture on the packaging shows some sports equipment (i.e., soccer ball, basketball, etc.)in cart, but I wouldn't recommend using it for that. It is disappointingly small, fragile and awkward.

I subsequently bought another of this type from Office Depot (Office Depot brand also) which I used for about a year until it finally cracked last week. If you must have this cart style, though not perfect, the Office Depot brand cart stood up a lot better.

Customer Review: Faulty plastic hinge pin design
Summary: 1 Stars

I found out the hard way that a modest load (c. 15 lb av) could cause the swing-down crate floor to skip out of the resting tabs protruding from the side walls. The load then proceeded to dislodge the both hinge pins (red plastic, apparently polypropylene), and the corresponding tumult in the hotel elevator then caused one of the pins to do a "needle in a haystack" routine. Unless I wanted to replace the pins with, say, quarter-20 316 stainless steel alloy bolt shafts (and create lifetime pins that would NEVER dislodge), therefore the crate was beyond repair. I am going to try a couple of other brands (e. g., dBest) before I visit McMaster-Carr Supply Company to get the necessary hardware to modify the Rubbermaid unit into a working device.

Customer Review: Go with a different one, really!!
Summary: 1 Stars

I've had a few different brands of these type of carts, and this one was definitely the worst. Not as roomy inside as the others, not as sturdy, and definitely weaker materials. Carrying the same load as I have with others, with my arm through the pull-up handle, and hand on the 'box' itself, a large portion of the back wall just broke right out spilling my load down the steps. I may have been overloading it, but like I said ALL the other carts I've used never did this with the same weight load. REALLY disappointed especially since it is "Rubburmaid". I expected better.
