Customer Review: Best bang for the buck, Summary: 4 Stars
I bought one of these to test it for my triplex. I tried to hang it myself, after the 5th hole I decided to hire a handyman before I turned my wall into swiss cheese. It comes with both drywall anchor bolts and wood screws, I couldn't find my studs (story of my life) and didn't feel comfortable using the drywall anchors since they're suppose to be at least 4" from a stud and I wasn't sure where they were. The handyman hung it fine, but I noticed after he left that there were empty holes. He said the kit didn't come with enough. It was missing about 2/3 of the screws that there are holes for. He said it was very secure and it didn't need any more. Eventually, I had another handyman put some in just to be safe but he was probably right. As for the design, I'm quite pleased, it does offer many options on how to arrange your shelves. Also, the quality is pretty decent. It's nice that clothes on hangers can slide past the supports, very cool design. I ended up buying one additonal pack of 2 shelves to use up the vacant space. When I went back to OSH to get another set they had run out and it's now discontinued or "obsolete" in OSHish. It is so rare that I actually like something I buy enough to want to get more and then it's gone! So I googled it and found it on Amazon at a fraction of the price I paid on sale at OSH. Plus free shipping! I ordered another 5 of them for the other units and my spare closet. The only thing I'd suggest to make it more awesome is really sketch out where your studs are, where you plan on putting the verticles because although it's very flexible to get the optimum amount of shelfing configurations you really need to have the verticles more evenly spaced as it shows on the box. If you're putting it up yourself, don't forget to place the rubbermaid bracket hider panel up before you hang the verticles or you've buried it like my handyman did. Having left over parts isn't really the best way to install anything.
First thing you have to do is measure from the ground I think it's 86" up (the box says the amount) then you hang the back horizontal brace bar. Once that's up and level you hang the verticles off of it. So, that's why it needs to be covered up with it's plastic bolt cover panels, but the top shelf fits right in front of it and will hide most of it anyway. This is by far the best way to save money and get a really decent looking closet system. It's not high end, but it's not cheap looking either. Lament wood is probably the next step up, but that can peal and age. As long as you don't have any kids messing with it, it appears it should last. If I was able to hang it myself and it came with the more screws I'd have given it a 5th star. That would have made it perfect, but it's pretty darn close.
Customer Review: Good organizer for a toddler closet, but could use more shelves Summary: 4 Stars
My husband and I were looking for a way to "take back" our living room and family room, freeing it from all the stacks of toys being stored on the floor in random toy boxes and bins. We really wanted to utilize our 2-year-old's closet (4 1/2 feet with just a clothes rod and a shelf across the top) so that it could still hold his clothes, but also hold toys. This organizer fit the bill. Since a toddler's clothes are short, we were able to put two hanging rods on the right side of the closet, a shelf across the top, and then four additional shelves on the left side of the closet.** (Please see my note about the shelves below.) Our son ended up with the same amount of hanging space with the double-rods, and we feel like we've tripled the amount of usable storage space for his toys! The fact that this system is customizable is WONDERFUL, and it's fairly easy to install. And, it's so sturdy! I don't have to worry about my son's toys coming toppling down on him (or us). We bought some see-through bins and organized his toys from our living space into his closet, and we couldn't be happier!
**Note: This classic kit didn't come with enough shelves for what we did. We had some shelves left over from the 8 foot deluxe set we bought for our own closet. We had to buy rods to extend the left-hand side to accomodate more shelves, and some extra brackets (we found these extra Rubbermaid products at Home Depot for about $3.97 a piece.) This Classic set gets four stars because of the lack of shelving/brackets. The deluxe gets a solid 5 stars from me, as it comes with more than enough for whatever configuration you want. If you want a lot of shelves, you might go for the deluxe kit.
