Tools and Hardware Reviews of Rubbermaid 11920138 Action Packer Cargo Box, 48-GallonCustomer Review: Nice Box, tricky to lock Summary: 4 Stars
This is a nice box for use as a truck box because it doesn't rest on the bed rails and tear up the bed. However, it took me awhile to figure out a way to lock it. It seemed to me that every site that sells, including the manufacturer's website, says it's lockable, but there is no indication of how to do that. Further, even if you do figure out how to lock it, how does one secure it to the bed of a truck to prevent someone from just grabbing the whole thing? Well, I came up with a two lock solution. One lock closes secures the box (only a short shank will do). The other acts as a loop to run securing cables through. This is needed because you can't actually run a good strength cable through the lock clasp mechanism. Now I have a nice truck box that won't scratch the sides of the bed and its at least reasonably secure.
Customer Review: Just what I expected Summary: 4 Stars
I have another small Action Packer, this one is the king sized version. It has indents in the bottom for drilling holes for mounting it - a pleasant surprise since this is what I intended to do with it. I had to enlarge the hole for the lock, and you need a long shank lock if you want to use a standard gauge Master Lock. Mine came with a little dent in the bottom corner - no big deal, just indicates that it received some rough handling. The handles are very small so this Action Packer is a little awkward to move around. Overall, it does just what I want (I've mounted it to the front of a small utility trailer).
Customer Review: Perfect for what I needed... Summary: 4 Stars
I was looking for a container that would store one of my telescopes. I took a gamble on this one having enough inside room right to left, and it paid off. my 38 inch (length, not aperture :-)) scope tube fit right in. These ActionPackers are well built, and heavy duty. The only complaint I have is this one probably should have wheels. The right/left carry "handles" for this are hard to use...they aren't deep enough and for something this large, it really is pretty much a two person carry. Maybe some "straps" on the sides would have been better.
Customer Review: Good Size for extra storage (48 gal) but needs two people to move Summary: 4 Stars
My quick review,
* You will need to vacuum/clean the in side before first use, there are plastic shavings inside.
*Lid opens less than 90 degrees causing it to close with the slightest tap.
*Not convinced it is 100 percent waterproof( but can't say for sure until my next road trip)
*You need two people to move it when full (48 gal), handles consist of a slight indentation on each side making this cumbersome to move due to its length.
*Feels sturdy though only single wall
*Lid closes securely
Customer Review: sturdy camping storage Summary: 4 Stars
Holds folded down camp gear such as cots and chairs.
You WILL wreck your back lifting this box by yourself using the end handles. This box wasn't designed for a one-man carry.
Buy a couple of straps, wrap loosely around the box centered at shoulder width, and you have a safe one-man carry, even with a full load.
Structurally though, it is a good box... stands up to rain, tie-down straps, and big dogs climbing around in the truck bed.
